Training:
Commissionaires Victoria offers training in a number of areas important to the safety and security to the general public. Among the courses available are:
- Conflict Control
The Art of Public Relations is a must in today’s security and customer focused work. ‘Conflict Control’ has been designed for those working in security and covers strategies when dealing with the public: how to deal effectively with visible minorities, persons with disabilities, the elderly, youth etc. It touches on difficult areas such as dealing with unstable persons. It covers audience engagement, dealing with stress and communication styles & preferred behaviour.
- Superhost
The general public relations course is ‘Superhost’ a provincially recognized course in public relations developed by Tourism, British Columbia in 1996. Again, this covers aspects of using and remembering names, making conversation, first impressions, the communication process, telephone techniques, effective listening skills, and the value of tourism.
- Ladies Self Protection
This course teaches women the basics in self protection, starting with the thought of being aware of potential scenarios and avoiding them before they happen. The students are taught basic movement, defence against various attacks including a knife attack, deterrents to use against an attacker, escapes on the ground, and outdoor awareness.
- Executive Close Protection
This is restricted training and open to those who are interested in getting into the high-end market by qualifying then offering personal protection to VIP dignitaries, which includes film and sports celebrities, senior business people and political personnel who require the support of a smart, intelligent and dignified operative. The candidates are trained in team and individual protection both on foot and mobile, estate and venue security, self defence for third party, threat assessment, communications and surveillance.
- Traditional Arts for Defence
The Academy has one of the highest ranks in the traditional Japanese warrior arts in the world with training that is excellent for self defence as it teaches ‘the art of fighting without fighting’. It enhances confidence, a feeling of teamwork and respect for others instead of just wading into a situation. This can be adapted for older generations, but most important, the teachings will always give the practitioner the confidence to control a situation, spiritually, psychologically and as a last resort: physically. 90% is unarmed defence, although the student will be shown defence techniques against club/stick, knife and even handgun. Having this confidence means that the student does not have to prove himself/herself in the physical sense. The warrior art is Ninpo Bushido which is the ancient Japanese Warrior Code dating back to 1163 AD. So although very historical, it does adapt to modern day conflicts.
